To assist in the development of market‐oriented vegetable production systems and promote vegetable research strategies for national agricultural research systems in the region, AVRDC – The World Vegetable Center established the Central Asia and Caucasus Regional Network for Vegetable Systems Research and Development (CACVEG) in August 2006. The eight countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) in the Regional Network develop vegetable production systems oriented toward market and trade, and conduct research aligned with the strategic principles of each country. According to country requests, priority activities are focused on the introduction and evaluation of improved germplasm, regional varietal trials, development and adoption of new vegetable crop varieties, and the introduction of innovative technologies. The network focuses on capacity building, information exchange, and the collection of baseline data on vegetables, and organizes promotional events such as workshops, training courses and Farmers’ Days. This report highlights recent activities in each country and includes images of released vegetable varieties, information dissemination activities, meetings and more.
