Unimproved germplasm

The World Vegetable Center Genebank contains the world’s largest public collection of vegetable germplasm, most in the form of seed.

The genebank’s collection of unimproved vegetable germplasm contains the alleles — the genetic materials — plant breeders use to discover genes and breed improved vegetable lines. Nutritious, productive, and good-tasting vegetable crops with better pest and disease resistance and tolerance to flooding, heat, drought and saline soils begin here.

Small quantities of unimproved germplasm of more than 450 vegetable species can be obtained upon request.

Visit the World Vegetable Center Genebank website to select germplasm of interest, and then fill out and submit a Seed Request Form.
