New board member to emphasize nutrition

Dr. Victor Ajieroh will bring a fresh perspective on food security and health to Board discussions and WorldVeg activities.

The World Vegetable Center Board of Directors welcomed its newest member, Dr. Victor Ajieroh, during its 60th meeting held on 1-2 December 2021.

Dr. Ajieroh is a food security and nutrition specialist with 20 years of experience in policy and development programming in sub-Saharan Africa. He has held various important positions in the public and private sector, including two years as the Senior Advisor on Food Security and Nutrition to the Honourable Minister of Agriculture in Nigeria and five years at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) working on United States Agency for International Development (USAID) supported initiatives.

He is currently a senior program officer for nutrition at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, based in Nigeria.

Dr. Ajieroh has worked consistently on programs, policies, and partnerships promoting sustainable business and development solutions to address major public health needs. He seeks to ensure adequate food, nutrition, and health for poor households, women, and vulnerable children in rural and urban settings through the deployment of repeatable business models involving public health communication and partnerships, project development and implementation, community-based participatory action planning, multilevel advocacy, and capacity building. He has consulted for the World Bank, the International Food Policy Research Institute, the Micronutrient Initiative, the International Agriculture Programme of Missouri University, USA, and various USAID projects (MARKETS, COMPASS, IYCN).
