RDA Cucurbit germplasm

Collection and evaluation of cucurbitaceous germplasm

Start date: 15 September 2020
End date: 14 October 2023

This project will search for multiple virus resistance in pumpkin and enrich the cucurbitaceous germplasm collections of the Rural Development Administration (RDA), Korea

WorldVeg will annually screen 30 pumpkin accessions from RDA Korea against multiple viruses in the field in Kamphaeng Saen, Thailand. Resistance will be fixed following the pedigree method of selection.

Each year, WorldVeg will share with RDA Korea 65 cucurbitaceous accessions (pumpkin, bitter gourd, and watermelon) along with the descriptor data.

Benefits

Seed of WorldVeg’s multiple virus resistant pumpkin lines and data on screening of RDA Korea’s pumpkin germplasm against multiple viruses will be shared with RDA Korea to help strengthen their collection.  International peer-reviewed articles will be published in prominent journals.
