Veggies 4 Planet & People (V4P&P)
– Enabling vegetable business development in East Africa
– From Annual Report 2024 –
V4P&P made strides towards enhancing youth employment, healthier ecosystems and better nutrition in Ethiopia and Kenya through increased vegetable production and trade. It enabled particularly women and youth to produce and sell a diverse range of vegetables, often traditional African vegetables, through training, mentoring, and linking youth to service providers such as financial institutes, input suppliers and buyers.
It established more than 200 vegetable business networks, with marketing support to improve connections between farmers and consumers, and similar groups for mutual learning. New production technologies were introduced and adopted that improve soil health, reduce production costs and postharvest losses, and enhance product quality. A parallel approach promoted vegetable consumption, and raises awareness amongst the public and policy makers of the importance of vegetables to healthy diets.
