Objectives
Smallholder farmers and consumers in Mali encounter serious challenges in achieving zero hunger and improved nutrition. WFP identifies aggravating four challenges in the country:
ï€ Limited access to diverse and nutritious food
ï€ Climate change and variability
ï€ Poor agricultural productivity and infrastructure
ï€ Conflict and displacement
Expected results
1. Enhanced the resilience of farming systems to climate change and variability by providing about 20 improved varieties of African traditional vegetables, tomato, pepper, onion and shallot.
2. Seven functioning VBNs established: 2 in Koulikoro, 2 in Segou and 1 each in Mopti, Gao and Timbuktu.
3. Direct support provided to 55-80 people per VBN or 385 – 560 direct beneficiaries and an estimated 385 – 560 indirect beneficiaries in total.
4. Improved dietary diversity and reduced malnutrition, especially among vulnerable populations such as women and children.
