Agricultural Development Expert, trained as Plant Breeder with more than 30 years of experience in Research and Development with specialized knowledge and skills for sustainable production intensification systems of agriculture. With more than 10 years’ experience with supporting the implementation of large agricultural projects as Plant Production and Protection officer for FAO for SADC as well as the Africa Region; serving as Lead Technical Officer for projects addressing sustainable agricultural production, pesticides risk reduction, pesticides management and seed systems. Represented FAO on the SADC seeds technical committee, SPS committee as well the SADC Pesticides Regulatory Forum (SAPReF) and on the Steering Committee of the AU’s Inter-Africa Phytosanitary Council (IAPSC).
With a background in crop improvement, more current focus on Plant Health Systems and Climate Smart Agriculture interventions with extensive knowledge of seed systems with particular focus on the informal seed sector and needs of smallholder farmers. Have contributed to the development of seed production/multiplication techniques and community seed production models with emphasis on developing options for open-pollinated and self-pollinated crops. Conversant with strategic planning and M&E systems and programming aligned to meeting the SDGs. Also have special interest in scaling up innovations and Value Chain development approaches with keen interest in issues addressing food and nutrition security. Also conversant with policy support for agricultural programming.
