Holds BSc. Horticulture, MSc in Plant Breeding and Seed Systems both from Makerere University, Uganda, and a PhD in Plant Breeding and Genetics from Cornell University, USA.
His core research expertise is in plant breeding, quantitative genetics and phenomics.
He joined Word Vegetable Center as a Scientist, Vegetable Breeding for Eastern and Southern Africa in June 2025. Prior to joining World Vegetable Center, he worked as a Lecturer for 4-years at Makerere University, Department of Plant Sciences, Microbiology and Biotechnology (PMB), Uganda. As a Lecturer, he taught a number of undergraduate and graduates courses in Genetics, Crop Improvement and Biotechnology, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics and Genomics. At the University, he also established the first ever research program in Horticulture and Orphan Crop Breeding. Before his employment at University, he worked with National Cassava Research Program in Uganda for over 12-years, first as a PhD student and later as a Research Scientist with specific focus on application of molecular breeding techniques such as genomic selection to shorten cassava breeding cycle. He has published widely and engaged in supervision of over 15 graduate students. His core research expertise is in plant breeding, quantitative genetics and phenomics.
