Dr. Limera holds a PhD in Agricultural, Food, and Environmental Sciences from Università Politecnica delle Marche, Italy, and was a visiting research scholar at the University of Wyoming, USA. She also holds a Master’s degree in Horticulture, specializing in vegetable science, from Nanjing Agricultural University, China, and a Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture from Egerton University, Kenya.

Research interests

She is passionate about developing, accessing and transferring sustainable and cost-effective agricultural solutions that address food security, and reduce malnutrition in all its forms while building resilience to climate change. She is particularly passionate about improving livelihoods and nutrition outcomes of farming communities with a focus on the vulnerable groups.

Biography

Dr. Cecilia Limera joined the Centre in May 2025 as a Project Leader, based in Nairobi, Kenya. Prior to this, she served as a Program Officer and Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture (NSA) Lead at the African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF).
With over a decade of experience in agricultural development, Dr. Limera has contributed significantly to initiatives aimed at enhancing food and nutrition security, improving farmer livelihoods, and promoting environmental sustainability. Her expertise spans horticulture, agronomy, and plant biotechnology.
