Biography

Anthimos Kampouridis (Makis) has joined WorldVeg in December 2023 as a Scientist – Cucurbit Breeding. He is a national of Greece.

Prior, he has worked with major commercial seed companies as an Accelerated Genetics Scientist for Cucurbits and Solanaceae and as a Pre-Breeder in two potato breeding programs; a diploid hybrid program and a traditional tetraploid program, in the Netherlands.

During his PhD he has worked on genome analysis and marker applications to identify genomic regions that carry on agronomically traits of inbred lines developed through double haploids that will further help accelerate breeding programs and crop improvement.

Makis has experience working with innovative technologies that accelerate breeding pipelines. He is developing populations for genetics studies and marker development for traits like disease resistance, fruit shape, flowering, DH development. He will focus on the Cucurbit breeding to develop inbred lines and hybrids that resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses with enhanced yield and fruit quality targeting smallholder farmers in tropical regions.
