Biography

Lukas is a transdisciplinary researcher studying the potential of agroecology and crop diversity for improving food production and human diets in an environmentally sustainable way. He works at the intersection of research and development, and he is interested in building bridges between different sectors to tackle complex agri-food challenges through integrated and context-specific solutions. His
work aims to support the transformation of agriculture and food systems to become biodiverse, nourishing and sustainable.

Lukas has a background in sustainable agriculture and resource management, with further expertise in food and nutritional security, biodiversity and sustainability. He has expertise in social and ecological systems, work experience in international research and development projects, and field experiences from Indonesia, India, Thailand, Ethiopia, Kyrgyzstan, Poland and Czech Republic.

Before joining the World Vegetable Center, Lukas has worked or consulted for the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, Indigenous Partnership for Agrobiodiversity and Food Sovereignty, CIFOR, HIVOS, Platform for Agrobiodiversity Research, Swisscontact Indonesia and People in Need. He also worked on agrobiodiversity, agroecological practices, nutrition-sensitive agriculture and Indigenous Peoples’ food systems.

At WorldVeg, he is developing agroecological and circular approaches in vegetable production through a farming systems lens, contributing to more productive, safe and sustainable smallholder vegetable production systems.
