WorldVeg-PABRA side event summary ｜WorldVeg – IFDC MoU signing summary

We are proud to be well represented at this major annual event, as we strive to build partnerships, to listen and learn from others, and share and showcase the work of our Center.

As expected, there is a good contingent of our scientists from Tanzania, but also from Eswatini, Benin, and our headquarters in Taiwan. A farmer from Kenya is also here, who works with our Veggies for People and Plant project, and women entrepreneurs from Zanzibar, part of our AIDI project there, amongst others, so that they can share their experiences directly.

The theme of this year’s event – ‘Recover. Regenerate. Act. Africa’s solutions to food system transformation’

Hon. Shamata Khamis, Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, Natural Resources and Livestock, Government of Zanzibar, visited the WorldVeg booth at AGRF2023. He talked to youth working with WorldVeg to hear their views and concerns, and looked at better ways for collaboration. More than 3000 delegates are expected, including many ministers of agriculture, distinguished speakers and panelists – including our own Director General Marco Wopereis.

Being in our Jubilee, we at WorldVeg decided to be a sponsor this year, and have our own booth – which proved to be popular already on the first day. And the back wall presents, clearly, what we see as key priority actions for such a transformation. We showcase ‘the need for seed’, and have a wide range of our publications, which can already be seen in the hands of many…

We also began the week with a bang, with a side event entitled – ‘Putting greens and beans and the center of more nutritious and resilient food systems’, organized jointly with the Pan African Bean Research Alliance (PABRA).

Much has also happened on the sidelines, including the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between WorldVeg and the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC).
