Wuu-Yang (Willie) Chen joined AVRDC as an Assistant Specialist in the Global Technology Dissemination (GTD) group in 2012. He managed the Demonstration Garden and with his GTD colleagues provided training to workshop participants in grafting, starter solution technology (SST) and balanced fertilization. Willie led the Fertigation Project funded by the Taiwan Council of Agriculture (COA) and participated in various AVRDC projects in Indonesia and Fiji, as well as the Vegetables Go to School project in six target countries. In 2014 August, Willie joined the Center’s Genetic Resources and Seed Unit (GRSU) as a Postdoctoral Fellow - Agronomist/Plant Protection Specialist to focus on grafting technology research. The aim is to find new rootstocks and successful scion/rootstock combinations that can address specific production problems and environments, to expand the solutions available to farmers. In 2018 he was appointed as an Associate Specialist with the Seed Health and Quarantine (SHQ) group.
