Tsvetelina's research activities focus on regeneration, characterization, documentation and utilization of vegetable genetic resources conserved in the seed repository at AVRDC's Regional Center for Africa. A major area of research is characterization and utilization of different vegetable crop collections, mostly African traditional indigenous vegetables. Another major task is seed increase and distribution of genebank accessions and improved lines to clients in the public and private sector in sub-Saharan Africa. Prior to joining AVRDC she was team leader of the Plant Genetic Resources Department at the Institute of Plant Genetic Resources, Bulgaria, where she was involved in many international R&D projects aiming to characterize and utilize plant genetic resources.
