Mathieu joined World Vegetable Center - Coastal and Humid Regions office in Benin in January 2021 as a Research Assistant in Plant breeding where he led variety trials, supported the development of vegetable seed systems, and the capacity strengthening of seed producers, and worked with national agricultural research partners for variety release and registration. Since April 2024, he holds the position of Vegetable Breeder. His previous research focus, among others, on the optimization of pollen high-throughput phenotyping method; the identification of new sources of heat-tolerant tomatoes using physiological, morphological and genomic tools; Quantitative Trait Loci analysis; the development of hybrids and identification of heterotic groups in tomatoes. He brings to the Center his extensive experience in agricultural research for development. His research aims to develop farmers and market preferred vegetable varieties.
