Mercy Mwambi

Agricultural Economist

Dr. Mercy Mwambi is an Agricultural Economist and scientist at the World Vegetable Center (WorldVeg), currently based in Arusha, Tanzania. She leads impact assessment efforts in WorldVeg’s Eastern and Southern Africa Region and the Food Safety and Loss Reduction priority area, a key pillar of the WorldVeg Global Strategy (2026–2033) aimed at strengthening vegetable-based food systems. With over a decade of research and development experience, Mercy strives to transform the food system by implementing and assessing innovative solutions to increase vegetable production and utilization, ensure the delivery of safe, nutritious vegetables, and improve the livelihoods and resilience of value chain actors.

Before joining WorldVeg, Dr. Mercy worked as a Junior Scientist at the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) and a consultant for Alliance Bioversity International – CIAT. She holds a PhD in Agribusiness Management and Organization from Wageningen University & Research in the Netherlands and was a 2013 African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) fellow.
