Lukas Pawera

Agronomist/Agroecologist

Lukas is an interdisciplinary agronomist studying how agroecological approaches and regenerative agriculture can improve production and quality of food in an environmentally sustainable way. His current work has a strong focus on soil and nutrient management practices and technologies that enhance soil health, increase productivity, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Current research themes include biochar, circular nutrient management, nitrification inhibitors, smart sensors, regenerative practices, and diversified cropping systems. Lukas has a background in tropical agriculture and bioresource management (PhD and MSc). He is a systems agronomist, taking a holistic, collaborative approach to understanding and managing complex production systems. At the World Vegetable Center, he leads projects that develop and scale agroecological and circular approaches to vegetable production, contributing to more diversified, resilient, and low-emission production systems.
