RECENT VISITORS

14 June 2018: A 5-person delegation led by Nguyen Quoc Hung, Director General of Fruit and Vegetable Research Institute (FAVRI), Vietnam visited WorldVeg HQ. They met WorldVeg DG Marco Wopereis, received a briefing from Communications Director Maureen Mecozzi, and toured fields with tomato breeders Peter Hanson, Yun-che Hsu and Shu-fen Lu, pepper breeders Sanjeet Kumar, Derek Barchenger, Susan Lin and Vivian Wang, and cucurbit breeder Vicky Cheng.

2 July 2018: 30 young farmers from Si-chou Farmers’ Association, Changhua, Taiwan visited WorldVeg HQ in a visit organized by the Taichung District Agricultural Research and Extension Station (DARES), COA Taiwan. Research Assistant Eric Shen guided the group through the WorldVeg greenhouses and Genebank Manager Maarten van Zonneveld (right) and Researcher Yung-kuang Huang (second from right) led the genebank tour.

7-8 August 2018: Masatoshi Sato (left), Director of Department of DUS Test and Seed Inspection, Center for Seeds and Seedlings, National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NCSS/NARO) and Tsukasa Kawakami (center), Head of Plant Variety Protection Section, NCSS/NARO held discussions about future collaboration with WorldVeg Pepper Breeders Sanjeet Kumar, Derek Barchenger, Entomologist Paola Sotelo-Cardona, Private Sector Relations Manager Mandy Lin, Taiwan Projects Manager and Virologist Sophia Chan and Consultant George Kuo, and introduced WorldVeg staff to NCSS activities. On 8 August, they visited the Demonstration Garden with Teresa Liang (right) and met with Genebank Manager Maarten van Zonneveld. WorldVeg Deputy Director General – Research David Johnson, Deputy Director General – Administration and Services Yin-Fu Chang, Genebank Manager Maarten van Zonneveld, and Consultant George Kuo had a wrap-up session before they left.

28 June 2018: A 31-person delegation from 11 countries (Australia, Belize, Canada, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, USA, and Vietnam) accompanied by staff from the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) and staff from the National Association of Small and Medium Enterprises ROC (NASME) visited HQ. The visitors were participating in the “2018 Overseas Taiwanese Business Invitation Group for New Agriculture” organized by OCAC Taiwan. After a briefing by Visitors Coordinator Shiu-Luan Lu they toured the Genebank with Genebank Researcher Yung-kuang Huang.

26 July 2018: 22 students and two teachers from a training course entitled “Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Training Program” USA, organized by the Chinese Language Center, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) visited WorldVeg HQ. The CLS students, from 22 universities in the US, were taking an eight-week intensive Chinese course at NCKU.

20 August 2018: Doraisamy Venkateswaran (second from left), a member of the Board of Management, and his two associates Velusamy Uthirasamy (third from left) and Palanisamy Ravikumar (fourth from left), Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), India were briefed by Teresa Liang, WorldVeg Deputy Director General – Research Management Assistant and toured the Demonstration Garden with Grants Officer Jessica Lin (left). They also met WorldVeg Scientist – Vegetable Grafting Ravishankar Manickam, Nutritionist Ray-Yu Yang, and Genebank Manger Maarten Van Zonneveld.
