Putting nutrients on the table

WorldVeg trainers Roseline Marialle, Inviolate Dominick, and Zablon Ernest worked with farmer groups supported by the Tanzania Horticulture Association (TAHA) on postharvest handling methods for vegetables, healthy (and tasty!) vegetable preparation, and nutrition in Pemba and Unguja islands of Zanzibar from 14-29 April 2018.

235 people from 27 groups (109 men, 126 women, with 113 of those youth) participated in the training. Facilitators used participatory methods and innovative learning techniques, with an emphasis on sharing of experiences among participants. The groups gained a better understanding of the linkages between nutrition, food groups for diversified nutrients, and postharvest handling practices to protect their harvest. Many trainees agreed to share their newly gained knowledge with other household members and neighbors.
