Bola Amoke Awotide (Nigeria), Postdoctoral Scientist – Agricultural Economics, joined WorldVeg in June 2017 at the West and Central Africa – Dry Regions office in Bamako, Mali. She has extensive experience in the design of comprehensive household and community surveys to study gender and agricultural resource management and has developed econometric models linking the adoption of improved maize varieties to changes in livelihoods in Africa. Other studies she designed and executed in Nigeria include the impact of a thresher on the welfare of rice farmers; the role of non-farm income in poverty reduction; and farmers’ access to rice value chains. Previously, Bola served as Chief Agronomist for OCP Africa (a multinational fertilizer company owned by the Moroccan Government) and worked as a consultant on projects for the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). She was a Research Fellow in the Policy, Impact Assessment and Innovations System Program of the Africa Rice Centre in Benin, a PhD intern at the United Nations University-World Institute of Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER) Finland, and an Academic Visitor at the Centre for the Study of African Economies (CSAE), Department of Economics, University of Oxford, United Kingdom. She received a PhD in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria in 2013.
