“Safe Vegetable Production”
Safe vegetable production benefits farmers, consumers, and retailers. Early- and mid-career professionals working in agricultural research, development, and extension with an interest in enhancing their knowledge of safe vegetable production are invited to apply for the IVTC course organized by the World Vegetable Center and Kasetsart University from November 13–24, 2023. Though it is focused on Asia, it is open to any interested participants from around the world.This two-week course aims to give participants hands-on experience with safe vegetable production techniques. More specifically, it will inform participants about:
- Good Agriculture Practices for Vegetable Crops (GAP certification)
- process of developing GAP standards using a case study approach
- Diseases of vegetables and their management related to the GAP standard
- A global perspective on disease management in safe vegetable production
- Principles of regenerative agriculture for better soil health in vegetable production
- Vegetable grafting techniques
- Sustainable soil fertility management
- Major nematode diseases of vegetables and their management
- Use of protected cultivation for vegetable crops
- Integrated pest management for key vegetable crops
- Postharvest management and processing
The training will be conducted at the World Vegetable Center-East and Southeast Asia Research and Training Station, Kasetsart University, Kamphaeng Saen, Nakhon Pathom, Thailand. The course fee is US$2,500, which covers training, accommodation, meals, local transportation, excursions, and local health insurance.
