United States Agency for International Development

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) supports several AVRDC initiatives in Indonesia, Bangladesh, Mali, and Tanzania.

The project “Mobilizing Vegetable Genetic Resources and Technologies to Enhance Household Nutrition, Income and Livelihoods in Indonesia” is building demand-driven capacity for vegetable production and marketing at all levels in Bali and East Java. In Bangladesh, AVRDC promotes summer tomato production through the USAID Horticulture project. Activities in Africa include training youth in vegetable production, home garden promotion, and the Postharvest Training and Services Center — a one-stop shop where farmers can obtain tools, packing materials, and advice to ensure more of their harvest will reach the market.

USAID aims to enhance broad-scale human progress by promoting shared economic prosperity; improving global health; advancing food security and agriculture; improving environmental sustainability; furthering education; and providing humanitarian assistance in the wake of natural and man-made disasters.
