AVRDC – The World Vegetable Center started working on tomato grafting in 1992 and introduced the technique to Vietnamese scientists in September 1998, during a one-month training course at AVRDC headquarters in Taiwan. From 2002-2006, the technique was introduced to Lam Dong province in southern Vietnam in collaboration with the Potato, Vegetable and Flower Research Center, and to the Red River Delta in northern Vietnam in collaboration with the Fruit and Vegetable Research Institute in Hanoi.

This evaluation study assessed the impact of the tomato grafting technique ten years after its introduction in Vietnam. It measures change in four impact indicators: the adoption of tomato grafting, yield and yield stability of grafted tomatoes, input factors affecting yield, and profit from tomato grafting.
