AVRDC signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), one of the largest and oldest agricultural universities in India, on 28 January 2014.
Punjab is recognized as the home of the green revolution in India, but AVRDC would also like it to be better known for its innovations in vegetable production.

The MoU was signed by AVRDC Director General Dyno Keatinge in the presence of MS Dhaliwal, Head, Department of Vegetable Science, PAU and Rakesh Sharda, Associate Professor, Department of Economics and Sociology at PAU.

The MoU provides a framework for a range of joint activities. AVRDC and PAU have had a long history of collaboration in plant breeding, with a particular focus on mungbean. In recent years AVRDC and PAU have actively collaborated in developing systems for protected cultivation and improved home gardens to enhance nutrition. The university is a national leader in plant breeding, protected cultivation and promoting innovative improvements to cereal crop rotations.

Following the signing, AVRDC Deputy Director General – Research Jackie Hughes and South Asia Regional Director Warwick Easdown joined Dyno and the PAU staff in identifying areas for future collaboration in breeding, fertigation, protected cultivation, grafting and academic exchanges.
